In the future, travelers from China will have to present a corona test when traveling to Germany. They needed “at least one rapid antigen test,” said Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) on Thursday. In addition, random tests would be carried out upon entry “to identify virus variants”. In addition, there will be additional waste water controls for trips to China.

Lauterbach referred to the EU recommendation on how to deal with trips to China and called it a “good decision”. The minister added: “On this basis, we are now changing the German entry regulation at short notice.”

In view of the wave of corona infections in China, the European Union “strongly” recommended that the member states on Wednesday make testing compulsory for travelers from the country. As the Swedish EU Council Presidency explained, at a meeting of the IPCR crisis mechanism, representatives of the member states also recommended random tests on arrivals and the analysis of waste water from flights from China.

In addition, the expert panel recommended that passengers wear protective masks on the way to China and back. The large EU countries France, Italy and Spain, among others, had already ordered in the past few days that travelers coming from China had to present a negative corona test.
