More than 400 people were evacuated from the cruise ship Viking Sky, which Saturday got engine trouble and was in potential danger of foundering in the midst of a storm, by the coast of Norway.
Among the passengers were british Derek and Esther Brown, who was rescued by a helicopter and flown in the country.
It was really exciting, but also alarming. Fortunately, was the airport close, so on the way we were lucky, but to be evacuated in a helicopter was something quite special, and quite seriously, told Derek Brown, when the pair had arrived in safety.
At that moment the pair found out that they are suddenly away from the cruise ship, there were many questions that came forward.
– What is going to happen with the ship? What about our possessions? Can ship risking to sink or what? We didn’t know it, so we were quite afraid, he explains.
Aboard the cruise ship were 1373 people, the majority of which are from Australia, the Uk, Canada and the UNITED states.
the Founder and owner of Viking Cruises, which organized the cruise, I have talked with many of the passengers were evacuated, and he has great respect for the fact that they have done rescue action.
– most of our passengers are elderly, like myself, and imagine, how it is to hang in there in the rescue line. It must had been a horrible experience, says the owner Torstein Hagen.
the Evacuation by means of helicopters was stopped Sunday, as the cruise ship sailing in the country by means of a tug.
