The Oscar-winning Danish animator and director Børge Ring is dead.

He was 97 years old.

It confirms his daughter Anne-Mieke Bovelett on Facebook.

‘David has left the building. He passed quietly away at 15 on Friday afternoon. We will miss his endless sense of humour’, she writes among other things in the advertisement on Facebook, which is written in English.

On Instagram she says that she luckily managed to take leave of her father.

‘We remind so much of each other. And I’m proud of it’, she writes to an image, where she stands together with his father.

Børge Ring was born in Ribe, and died in Holland, where he lived for over 60 years until his death, together with his wife Joanika Ring. The couple had two children together.

Børge Ring, has worked as an animator on a number of large, international productions.

Børge Ring was the creator behind the iconic ‘fløjtesang’ in børneanimationsfilmen ‘Valhalla’ from 1986, where the three children, Tjalfe, Rødkva and Quark sings in a tree house. He is also behind several short films with the popular figure of Quark.

Børge Ring has both won and been nominated for an Oscar for two different short films.

He won the award for the animated short film ‘Anna Bella’ in 1985, and he was also nominated in 1979 for the short film ‘Oh My Darling’.

in Addition, Børge Ring, among other things, made work for the band Pink Floyd, the director Steven Spielberg. He has also been to draw advertisements for Phillips and Esso.
