Novak Djokovic reached the semifinals early in the ATP finals. The 35-year-old Serb clearly won 6: 4, 6: 1 against Andrei Rublev from Russia in Turin on Wednesday and thus celebrated his second victory at the end of the year for the eight best tennis professionals. Djokovic only needed 67 minutes for his success. The five-time ATP Finals champion is in the semi-finals of the prestigious event for the eleventh time.
In the second game of the day, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev from Russia will face each other from 9 p.m. (Sky). Both had lost their opening games.
After his victory, Djokovic confirmed that he can start at the Australian Open in Melbourne from January 16th. The Australian authorities would have allowed him entry. This year he had to leave the country after a legal dispute because he was not vaccinated against the corona virus and was given a three-year entry ban. The current government has now reversed this.
“There couldn’t be better news for me,” said Djokovic. The winner of 21 Grand Slam titles said he was very relieved, citing that he had had great success in the first of the four most important tournaments of the season in his career. Djokovic has won the Australian Open nine times, making him the record champion. He had also missed the past US Open as he was not vaccinated against the corona virus.
