The City Council of Churriana de la Vega would like to share its decision to suspend patron saint festivities in honour of San Roque (August 16), and the Virgen de la Cruza (September 8) due to the covid-19 crisis.
After an in-depth analysis of the situation and the following recommendations from the authorities, it was determined that it was not possible to ensure safety or normal celebrations of the Churriana De la Vega festivities.
In these difficult times, the City Council prioritizes safety and health to avoid contagion. Antonio Narvaez, the mayor, said that he regrets making this decision. He assures that Churriana is not the first to have to suspend its celebrations. “It’s a meeting space and friendship space where joy and tradition are shared.”
The mayor congratulated Churriana de la Vega residents for their exemplary behavior during this crisis. Antonio Narvaez stated that “our neighbors have more to demonstrate the civility, responsibility, and dignity required by this situation, which will only be possible if we work together.”
The City Council wishes to celebrate next year’s festivities, provided that it is possible due to sanitary conditions.
