Macedonia’s parliament on Friday voted in favour of that country changes its name to the Republic of Nordmakedonien.

a total Of 81 mps voted in favour of the amendment of the law, which paves the way for the name change. Thus, the proposal received the necessary two-thirds majority of the parliament’s 120 members.

the change means at the same time that a decades-long conflict with Greece is closer to achieve its end.

Greece has, since 1991 the opposite of the former yugoslav republic could call themselves Macedonia. The reason is that there is a Greek province of the same name.

This entry is not officially in force until it is approved in the Greek parliament. But it is considered to be a formality.

When Macedonia finally changes its name, Greece has promised to lift its veto against a Macedonian membership of the international organisation, Nato and the european UNION-cooperation.
