France, Italy and Germany have Saturday pressure on marshal Khalifa Haftar, the strong man of the east of Libya. They have asked him to be offensive on Tripoli to stop and return to the peace process under the aegis of the United Nations.
“There is a fundamental principle. In Libya, there will be no military victory. The solution can only be a political solution”, stressed the French minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, after a meeting with his counterparts from the Group of Seven (G7) in Dinard, in the northwest of France.
The French minister was talking about “inappropriate initiatives”, without having to Haftar by name calling. Le Drian know the marshal well, and visited him several times in his stronghold of Benghazi, in the east of Libya.
The troops of Haftar launched Thursday an offensive to take the capital of Tripoli, where the GNA (Government of National Accord) under the supervision of Fayez al-Sarraj is the seat of the government by the international community is being recognised. Sarraj was wearing his troops and militias in the armed forces of Haftar, to reduce.
France is “on the same line as Italy”, insured Le Drian – Italy seems to be regularly irritated by the French initiatives in the former Italian colony. Also the Italian minister of Foreign Affairs, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, emphasised that the ministers of the G7 agreed on the issue of Libya.
