Even after a breakthrough at Bakhmut, the Russian forces would not have a clear path

The town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast has been the focus of Russian attacks for the past seven months. A local battle rages, with at the same time the most intense artillery fire. Terrible human losses are accepted on the Russian side. The Ukrainian armed forces countered, not without suffering heavy losses of their own. Nevertheless, there is talk of a ratio of five to seven Russian victims to one Ukrainian.
