the DN has previously reported to the Karolinska university hospital is being investigated by the DO after the accusations of anti-semitic harassment from a senior consultant working at one of the hospital’s departments.
Afterwards went also 120 doctors from the hospital out with a letter that was sent to the DN in which sharp criticism was directed against the läkarfackets action after the accusations.
and the criticism, the hospital has now organised an exhibition about the Holocaust in both Huddinge and Solna. At the exhibition are, among other pictures of Anne Frank along with a text about the hospital’s values and the responsibility of humanity. But the exhibition has upset several employees.
“It’s the kind of thing hypocrisy,” says a co-worker at the hospital who wishes to remain anonymous.
– It had almost been better if they had not done anything at all, but this feels like an attempt to smooth over the problems after the situation with the harassment attracted the attention of the media.
the hospital, the exhibition has stirred up the emotions of several of the staff.
– We are many who believe that the hospital acted in the matter. They can have as many exhibits as time, but it does not help. Management must show that they understand the seriousness of the situation and to act decisively on the problem.
the Exhibition opened at the end of last week, in cooperation with the living history Forum, a body which has the mission to promote work with democracy, tolerance and human rights, on the basis of the Holocaust.
, the acting hospital director at the university hospital, the exhibition is only a part of the hospital’s work against discrimination in the workplace.
– It is a measure to get us all to stop and think. The soft issues like human dignity and compassion are extra important for those of us who work with patients who are in a vulnerable situation in life, says Annika Tibell.
the exhibition stirred up feelings among the staff is nothing Tibell is surprised.
” I think it is sad that you see it as provocative, but I think that it is a show that can get people to think about it. Nor do I believe that this exhibition alone will solve the problems in reality but it can be a reminder that we need to work on those issues.
the result came from the investigation set up after allegations of harassment. The deadline for comments has not yet expired and by reason of the want Annika Tibell not specify which actions the hospital may take.
“of course We want to have all the facts on the table, process the comments received, and to consider the measures we can take when the investigation is final,” she says.
Tibell believes that the hospital is constantly dealing with issues of discrimination in the workplace by, inter alia, to organise seminars and lectures, but the employees at the hospital that DN talked with, said that it is not enough, but you want to ensure that the hospital is acting in the case of the medical superintendent.
“Yes, there have been lectures by experts, among other things, but most in the hospital are not anti-semites, but it is about the concrete problems which require concrete measures,” says an employee.
