It came as a shock to the film director Christian Tafdrup, when he, along with his film crew, just three weeks into the filming of the upcoming movie ’the Benelux’ brat had to interrupt the work.
It was the month of march, and the entire team had traveled to the Netherlands to film in a house in a remote forest, and even though coronakrisen in Denmark had only just begun to stir when they left, it was suddenly a reality for the film crew in the middle of a recording, writes DR.
– When we made this here little difficult sexscene – sexscener is not easy, because they are intimate and cross-border for all, but it went well – so knocked it just at the door to the small bedroom we were in, and then it was my line producer Johnny, who is a very sweet man who just so completely serious and said, ‘It stops now. The ministry of foreign affairs has called us home, so now we pack everything, and then we have just the home’, says Christian Tafdrup as Extra the Blade catches him.

Before they had reached two optageuger home in Denmark for the film, which must take place both in Denmark, the Netherlands and Italy, and even though coronaen came closer and closer, they had so far beaten him.
In the beginning it was not something we talked out loud about. It was a bit like an elephant in the room. We were on the island of Fyn in Denmark, out in the country, and there we were very much ourselves. It was a little something we laughed at at first, but then began the dramatic news to roll in, and I began myself to think of alternatives, but it was mostly something I went and feared, and not something I dare to speak out loud about, says Christian Tafdrup.
they traveled to the Netherlands on Monday and the filming was interrupted on Friday, it was, however, strong.
– I began to be nervous if there was someone around me who sneezed or coughed, and I checked the news and coronatal constant. Every day was the news just got worse and worse, and even though we stood out in the house in a forest, it was like a monster who just overtook us, ” he says.

After a brief meeting left the crew, and a peaceful, Dutch forest in something that reminded flugtstemning, and suddenly sat Christian Tafdrup again without having anything.
– I was in shock, because what I feared happened – just in a more dramatic way. And there was not anyone who could come up with answers on when we could get started again. For an instructor, it is indeed one’s worst nightmare not to be able to complete his film, he says.
Now, after three months of uncertainty the looks of it however want out. Thursday, the team is scheduled back to the Netherlands, and even though Christian Tafdrup is pleased to be able to resume work, it is not without a number of challenges.
– I hope it will be the same film, but I can’t answer that yet. We are, of course, compromise on some locations, and I’ve had to cut some scenes away from the manuscript, but there, where I am most nervous about, is in relation to the workflow and the restrictions, he says.

Despite the many restrictions and not least the uncertainty in relation to the scenes that must be shot in Italy, hope Christian Tafdrup at the premiere in 2021.
– It is a tightrope, and we go on a very thin line. If we are lucky and everything is successful, it may be only a few months late, but if we are very unlucky, we can first make the last scenes in Italy next year, and so we’re talking about a delay of a year to a year and a half, he says.
