There arose great debate on social media after a video of a fisherman in Canada who throws explosives against a group of sea lions, have seen the light of day.
Now becomes the incident investigated by the official fisheries authorities in the country. It writes multiple media, including Fox News.
the Clip shows the fisherman Allan Marsden ignites the explosives, usually used to scare bears away, and throw it towards a group of sea lions, who had gathered at the fisherman’s boat.
the Video has since been shared in different Facebook forums, including the ‘Pacific Balance Pinniped Society’, which describes itself as a aktivistgruppe, which keeps an eye on the stock of seals and sea lions.
Allan Marsden has himself explained, that he threw the explosive in order to spread the søløverne – not to kill them.
– We are not out here to kill sea lions. We are looking not for them. We would really like to have, that they were not here, he said to CBC News.
– They are here, we’re trying to make a living, and we’re just trying to find a way to handle both.
Marsden explains that he participated in the video to teach the population in that søløverne constitutes a danger to the fishing industry.
He was, by his own admission, for herring, but they were scared off by the big bunch of sea lions.
Therefore, he decided to use explosives to get them away from the fish.

Not only did the søløverne it’s hard to get a hold of herrings; Allan Marsden also felt that it was dangerous for the fishermen, to the great flock lay so close to the boat.
– I have been bitten by a sea lion before. I am lucky that I am not in a wheelchair or worse. It can be dangerous to be caught by a sea lion, which gets you thrown overboard.
While there is divided opinion as to whether it was in order to scare søløverne away, Allan Marsden may very well be at risk for criminal charges for his stunt.
Department of Fisheries and Oceans has stated in a press release that they are investigating the incident and believe it may be, there will be a charge of the man.
It is illegal to threaten or disturb the sea creatures.
An expert in havdyrs welfare has stated to CBC News that he is in shock over the action.
– To throw explosives towards the head of an animal can make them deaf, and if it is near the eye, the animal to lose their sight, says Andrew Trites.
– I know that they have said that it does not harm the animals, but if that is the case, I think then, that they should try to stand with some explosive and let it blow up.
