The French priest, Jean-Marc Fournier, could, like so many other frenchmen did not manage to see their beloved cathedral, the Notre Dame, be engulfed by the flames.

While visitors and staff were evacuated followed Jean-Marc Fournier with the fire brigade in the burning cathedral.

This writes the british media Sky News.

the Priest feared that the priceless religious artifacts would be lost in the fire.

– Father Fournier is a hero. He showed absolutely no fear, while he went directly after the priceless artefacts inside the cathedral and ensured that they came out, says an employee at the fire department in Paris, according to Sky News.

Etienne Loraillere, who is the editor of the French television station KTO Catholic, shelves Fournier:

– (Han, ed.) went with the firemen into the Notre Dame cathedral and rescued among other things, the crown of thorns.

the crown of thorns is believed to be the original crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ in connection with the korsfæstningen. It was brought to Paris in 1238 by the French monarch Louis IX.

It is not the first time that Jean-Marc Fournier hailed for his heroic deeds. After the terrorist attacks in Paris 13. november 2015 he went into the venue, the Bataclan, where terrorists killed 89 people with firearms and explosives.

Here he prayed a prayer for the dead and comforted those who were injured during the attacks or had lost their loved ones.

I gave a total remission of our sins, as the catholic church has given me the power, said Jean-Marc Fournier at the time.

the Priest, who is in the 50’s, started his career as a catholic priest in Germany, and later moved to France. Previously, he has been chaplain for seven years, where he traveled around the world with the military.

In Afghanistan, he survived an ambush in which ten soldiers were killed.
