The Hamburger Winterdom will not shine quite as brightly as usual this year. The goal of the showmen is to save 20 percent electricity, said the President of the Showmen’s Association Hamburg, Robert Kirchhecker, on Wednesday. For example, part of the lighting is omitted. “Although folk festivals are exempt from the Energy Saving Ordinance, it goes without saying that we will save energy in the current situation,” said Kirchhecker.

Almost all rides have already switched to energy-saving LED lights, explained the head of the cathedral department in the economic authority, Sören Lemke. A step towards more sustainability is also the serving of most hot and cold drinks in deposit cups.

The folk festival on the Heiligengeistfeld begins on Friday. Until December 4th, visitors can have fun in the rides of 223 showmen. The prices have not risen since last summer, it said.

Attractions include the 55 meter high Ferris wheel, a 700 meter long roller coaster and 16 different offers for children. There are also three fireworks displays and a family day with reduced prices every Wednesday. The festival was able to take place again for the first time in the summer without corona restrictions.
