The british singer Ranking Roger is dead at the age of 56.

He stood at the head of the popular bands The Beat and the General Public.

the cause of Death has not been announced, but in January reported Ranking Roger, that he had cancer of the lungs and the brain.

Ranking Roger achieved great success with The Beat, which was among bannerførerne on the british ska scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Beat hit with among others ‘The Tears of a Clown’, ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’ and ‘Can’t Get Used to Losing You’, which all went into the Top 10 in the country of origin.

Ranking Roger was later a member of the superbandet General Public, which also included musicians from Dexys Midnight Runners, The Specials and The Clash.

General Public distinguished himself especially in the north America with ’tenderness heart’ and ‘I’ll Take You There’.

Ranking Roger died yesterday in his home surrounded by his family.
