More than half of all women will experience bladder infection, also known as cystitis, at least once in their lives. In about a quarter it is recurrent, meaning it keeps coming back several times a year. Those affected are often desperate. The disadvantage of antibiotics, which are often prescribed, is that resistance can develop if they are taken frequently. However, current studies give hope for new treatment methods.
