A group of young construction workers rescued what they thought was a cold and dying dog from the Pärnu river in Sindi, Estonia, but that soon turned out to really be a young wolf.

The estlandske dyrebeskyttelsen that took the wolf tells the Newspaper that Thursday morning got a phone call from Robin Sillamäe, one of the workers, about a very cool dog.

fell through the ice

the Wolf was very cold and in bad shape. It had probably died if they had not taken it with in, ” says Christ Matssa, communications manager and volunteer with dyrebeskyttelsen.

Matssa explains that the workers saw that the frantic beast had gone through the ice and that it failed to get out again.

They broke up the ice with the bygningsutstyret they had, and then failed the just to swim in the country with what it had left of the forces, ” she says.

the Wolf must have been very frozen and tired, with bits of ice hanging in the coat.

the Men wrapped in the refrigerated hannulven into a towel and took it into a car to keep it warm.

“Not possible that it is a wolf”

According to the Matssa to the rescuers basically have wondered a bit if there maybe was a wolf they had in the car anyway.

They were very uncertain of whether it was a dog or a wolf, but it was so slight that it seemed not possible that it could be a wolf either, ” she says.

It was only when a vet examined it that they got it confirmed: It was a relatively young hannulv in under one year.

It should be in good shape now and was released back out in the woods in the course of the evening.
