Podcasts, usage studies show, are a growth area. More people are spending more time with these formats. Podcasts are therefore a kind of antidote to TikTok, Instagram and Co. However, the problem so far has been financing – only a few podcasts are sufficiently financed by advertising. Since the production costs are manageable in many cases and often contribute to media branding, the number of podcasts is nevertheless increasing.

The Podimo platform, founded in Denmark, wants to become one of the most important providers of this comparatively young media type with its own podcasts, which are only available to subscribers. And that against the global competition from Spotify, Apple and Audible/Amazon.

In this interview edition of “Medien-Woche” we speak to Podimo co-founder and CEO Morten Strunge and Sebastian Romanus, the company’s head of Germany. A conversation about the fascination of podcasts, the future of the market and the strategy of Podimo – which received funding of almost 60 million euros a few weeks ago.

The “Media Week” is a podcast about the world of media and its makers. Christian Meier, editor at WELT, and Stefan Winterbauer, editor-in-chief of the industry service Meedia, talk about the most important topics of the week every Friday. Background, analytical, entertaining.
