Juan Miguel Alvarez Paez, an artist, is the winner of the general category of fifth International Fast Painting Contest of La Zubia. The contest was organized by the departments of Culture and Tourism of La Zubian City Council, Caja Rural and Provincial Council of Granada. It took place in the metropolis on Saturday, May 7. Nearly fifty artists from Spain participated in this contest. They immortalized certain corners, monuments, and landscapes of La Zubia.

The general category, which includes all techniques but watercolor, awarded the first prize with 2,000 euros. The second and third prizes received 1,000 and 600 euros. Juan Pedro Linares Montes and Pedro Iglesias Asuar were chosen by the jury as the winners. Andres Quiros Yanez won the prize for best local artist with 500 Euros, while Miguel Sampedro Diaz took the special prize for watercolor Jose Galan Polaino’ worth 2,000 Euros.

Rosa Gamero (Consultant for Culture of La Zubia), highlighted the “impressive level of all participants, whose work can be seen at an exhibition that will take part from May 13 through June 30 at Carlos Cano Cultural Center.”

Puri Lopez, the mayor of La Zubia, presented the awards along with the mayor for Culture. She thanked everyone involved “for the beauty and their works, that have filled our streets with color, on a memorable day for all of us.”
