The Monkees’ Peter Tork is dead at the age of 77.

Bassist and singer from the legendary band, died today. The cause of death is not disclosed.

Peter Tork was a member of The Monkees from the group’s beginning in 1966, and he also participated in the quartet’s many comebacks through the years.

The Monkees was one of musikhistoriens first boy bands and can be seen as an american counterpart to The Beatles.

Peter Tork got cancer in 2009, but later in the same year he was declared cured of the disease.

The Monkees’ primary vocalist, Davy Jones, died in 2012 of a heart attack.
