In 1920, a new boundary drawn between Germany and Denmark – Jutland had been a German in a number of years, was Danish.
But even though the new limit was on the basis of a peaceful vote, so the border area has been the scene of some of the most dramatic events in recent Danish history, which has been the focal point of a new story on DR.
’the Borderlands’ is a comprehensive work that both tells of the loss of and reunification with south Jutland and provides a bid on, what happened with Denmark as a nation in this watershed period of history.
DR takes viewers through the historical reduction in the battle on the border, by the loss of southern Jutland, with minded schleswigers in the war on the German side, and when it must be determined whether the northern slesvig must be Danish or remain German.
In the Borderlands folder we the fates and life stories out and tell about some of the people who stood in the front, or played a crucial role, since major decisions would be taken. But also about ordinary people whose lives were changed by the great events and it is precisely the stories and persons, as DR wants to awaken to live.
– In the ’History of Denmark’ and we heard Lars Mikkelsen talk about some of the most crucial moments in our history. This he did with so much authenticity and conviction, that we wanted to ask if he would help us again – in a new history series on the Reunion. Luckily he said yes to take us all into the story again, and I look forward extremely much to the cooperation with one of Denmark’s best storytellers on a crucial part of Denmark’s history, says Ane Saalbach, producer of ’Borderlands’.
– Before I went ahead with the preparations for the ’History of Denmark’ I knew well that the story occupied me a great deal. But it has come up behind me, in what degree my interest has been sharpened. And as I get more knowledge about the history the more important it becomes for me. So when the DR suggested that our next joint project was to act on the reunion, I was not long about to strike. I am pleased to help to refine a very important part of our history in relation to our self-image as a nation, says Lars Mikkelsen.
It is the team behind the ’History of Denmark’ who is behind ’Borderland’ with Ane Saalbach as the show’s producer. The series is based on dramatizations and reconstructions of actual events and personal stories, and caters to a wide audience, so the whole family can watch.
the Frontier will, as the ’History of Denmark’, be, working in collaboration with historical experts, like DR’s focus on reunification in 2020 is expected to unfold with several programs across the DRs platforms and in cooperation with external partners, in order to give the public multiple perspectives and experiences with the history.
Viewers can experience the result in the course of the anniversary year 2020, where the series is scheduled to be sent Sundays at 20: 00 on DR1.
