Bruges, Minister for animal Welfare Ben Weyts (N-VA) is in favour to the keeping of dolphins in captivity prohibit. He wants before opening up the debate and points to the living conditions of the animals. That means possible bad news for the Bruges Dolphinarium, the only place in Flanders where the mammals are still in captivity. “We have to continue to tolerate purely for our enjoyment? I plead for a uitdoofbeleid,” said Weyts.

Minister Ben Weyts launched his idea Sunday morning during ‘The Seventh Day’. He was remarkably rigorous. “The keeping of dolphins in captivity has no use. We let the animals tricks to do in exchange for a few dead fish”, and put Weyts of shore. “Dolphins are stressgevoelige and hyperintelligente animals. Now, they are in a basin held while they are in the real life 60 miles per day to travel to their natural habitat 125 square kilometres. Should we continue to tolerate purely for our enjoyment? The debate surely must be conducted.”
