Sint-Gillis-Waas The 23-year-old Julie Boone from De Klinge is one of the thirty finalists next week Saturday to compete for the title of Miss Belgium. The difference she hopes to be partly due to its commitment to the environment. Her prom dress for the final will be composed exclusively of organic and recycled materials.

“don’t Confuse me with an environmentalist, that tomorrow all the cars want to ban and never a can of cola drink, but I want people to raise awareness and alternatives to serve, so that we, little by little, the world positive change”, says the 23-year-old HR consultant, who had already managed to crowns to Miss Oost-Vlaanderen. That was the first time that they attended such a competition had participated. “I had actually already longer wish to do so, but friends had me a little push.” The provincial title meant automatically a ticket for the final of Miss Belgium. A jury herleidde the number of sixty girls to thirty that Saturday 12 January at the Plopsa Theater in De Panne will compete for the coveted crown.

Julie Boone will be appearing in a special prom dress which is exclusively made of organic and recycled materials. “I especially want to make a statement that things must change and especially otherwise,” she explains. “Our planet is neglected by pollution, too much plastic, global warming,… It is no PR stunt from me. I often choose ecological clothing that is recycled is, I eat weekly at least once a vegetarian, I buy mostly organic, avoid plastic packaging and also try to car-pooling to do. The were private friends of my parents that me on the idea brought to this, to play in the finals. All the girls are beautiful, sympathetic, and can easily express.”
