According to president Macron will be the Notre-Dame cathedral within five years again shine as of old. Architects from all over the world have designs within sent to the cathedral in all its glory, to restore it and all traces of the fire to clear. But not everyone is. The internationally renowned French restorer Cécile Charpentier be horrified at the thought of a (fast) reconstruction. “The cathedral is a ruin and use the money raised for more important things,” she states.
A devastating fire put the Notre-Dame cathedral on april 15, ei-so-after all in the ashes. The wooden beams and the spire gave way, but the rest of the construction could largely be preserved. The reconstruction is nonetheless a costly and time-consuming affair. But the French president wants to make headway. If it depends, must be the famous icon within just five years, restored.

But Charpentier who is full of passion about the Notre Dame talk, and in the past was involved in the restoration of several masterpieces in the cathedral, argues for a minimal restoration.
Ego
“I have always realized that if there is something with this monument, would happen, that it is a very big problem. It is a majestic building full of prestige, spirituality and with a fraught history,” said the restorer. But the eagerness with which experts from all over the world now in the restoration want to be involved, she shares. “It’s all about the ego, not to the building,” she says.
