‘I have always voted blue, but now I begin to doubt.’

‘I’m 37 years old and is a permanent nurse on a medical ward at Rigshospitalet in copenhagen.’

‘As we are both an acute and elektivt section (scheduled patients), vary it very much, how many patients we have admitted at the same time.’

‘Sometimes there can be 7 other times (and most often) is about 14+, where even the poorest patients are being referred to the corridor.’

so begins Ida S., in a letter to the nation! about the conditions in the Danish healthcare system. Ida has previously written about the staffing and the frustration she may feel at a night shift, when there are several that will need help at one time – and you’re just a guard.

But today the madmængden, as her department gets delivered from the kitchen – and in the response that the university hospital has sent to the nation!, you can read that there are several other departments who have had the same problem. Ida’s letter thus continues:

‘We get the food up on the department down from the kitchen to the lunch and for the evening, but in the last week, there was simply not enough food for all. Simple as that.’

‘Bøtterne in the infamous food cart out in the buffet was emptied and scraped for meat, vegetables and mashed potatoes and at this time there were still three patients who had not yet received a portion – so we had to heat øllebrød, rice pudding and soup from the frost.’

‘Are we really so far-fetched, that there no longer is enough food for the sick? In addition, it prolongs the patient’s indlæggelsesforløb, if this does not manage to consume enough KILOJOULES and protein.’

‘Can it be right that mrs Jensen and mr. Hansen, who throughout their lives have contributed to the treasury (as they are both self found) can’t get a serving of hot supper at the hospital?’

‘My manager has subsequently approached the kitchen, which is really not on target for the small amount of food, since they only aimed for higher and køkkenpersonalets response was that they have to calculate and estimate every day in order not to make too much food, as they have received serious disciplined for waste.’

The medarbejderblad the ministry of the Interior november 2017:

‘But… my patients should damn well have some food’, writes Ida, and the answer from the copenhagen university hospital’s communications department is as follows:

’the Amount of patientkost produced at the Rigshospitalet in copenhagen is the Street (for patients): 1.600 døgnkost. Glostrup (for Patients): 600 døgnkost.’

‘Døgnkost means full meals a day – breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.’

‘The total cost of raw materials at The two plots together constitute approx. 23 million. kr. annual ex. monastery (f.ex drinks and certain morgensmadprodukter).’

‘Lønudgiften for the production of the diet is approx. 13 million. kr., however, depending on which groups of employees are recognised in the statement (f.ex. about cleaning, production for canteens, transport of madvogne etc. is recognised).’

’the Messages from departments about the too little / too much food is part of the ongoing dialogue between the kitchen and the departments and are not calculated separately, writes the national university hospital.’

But what about you – what is your position?
