She was beautiful and rich, her life luxurious – at least that’s how the Hong Kong model Abby Choi staged herself for her 80,000 followers on Instagram. Just two weeks ago she was photographed in the Asian “Vogue”.

But behind the scenes, her life was apparently anything but harmonious, because Abby Choi is said to have fallen victim to a terrible crime. Police believe she was dismembered by her in-laws after they found parts of the 28-year-old’s body in their fridge.

Abby Choi’s ex-husband was also searched for, according to “BBC” he is said to have fled in a speedboat, but was caught in the port. His brother has also been arrested, according to Police Commissioner Alan Chung. He is said to have worked as a chauffeur for Choi. The family members would have to answer for joint murder, it is said.

Choi, who also worked as a model in Europe and was seen in Paris for the designer Elie Saab, has been missing since Wednesday. She was last seen on surveillance cameras picking up one of her children from school. On Friday afternoon, the police then searched a house that had been rented by the victim’s father-in-law. There, police officers then discovered two legs belonging to a woman in the refrigerator, as well as the victim’s ID card, credit cards and other items inside the house, Chung said.

The suspected murder instruments were also secured, it said: “Tools used to dismember human bodies were found in the apartment, including meat grinders, chainsaws, long raincoats, gloves and masks.” Human tissue was also found in pots of soup been, said Chung. The victim’s head, torso and hands were still missing.

Chung said authorities believe the 28-year-old model had financial disputes with her ex-husband and his family over tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars.

Abby Choi’s father-in-law had built up a restaurant empire in Asia, but Choi herself also comes from a wealthy family and is said to have repeatedly supported her husband’s financially. “Some people” were dissatisfied with the way Choi handled their financial assets. This is also reported by the South China Morning Post. Accordingly, it was about a property that Choi wanted to sell.

Choi’s body is now to be examined by a forensic scientist to determine the exact cause of death.
