Duffel VOC Neteland, an animal shelter from Herenthout, delivered Sunday to the Waarloossteenweg in the Duffel for a very special assignment: a raccoon in a chicken coop to retrieve. Where the animal comes from, is unknown.
“Our neighbor warned us Sunday morning that our chickens dead in the coop layers. When we take a closer look went take we saw a raccoon. At first We thought the tie was”, says Nadine Boeykens. “A raccoon is an exot,” says Celeste Dillen of VOC Neteland. “We were surprised about the call,” says Celeste Dillen of VOC Neteland. “The animal looks cute, but can be quite dangerous from the corner. With a net and heavy gloves, where his teeth not come through, we have him finally be able to catch. He sat there at his ease, and was not going to be with us. Meanwhile he had already had four chickens and the rooster is eaten. The rabbit in the cage, he left undisturbed.” The raccoon moved this week to an animal shelter of Opglabbeek. “They have more experience with raccoons. For us it is only the second time that we come into contact with this animal”, it sounds to VOC. In the last few years, there is growing evidence that the raccoon in the wild to attack in Flanders. “But unfortunately, they are in our country illegally are held. We suspect that this copy somewhere has escaped.” In Planckendael zoo, they are in no way a raccoon will be lost.
