Büşra Cebeci comes from an extremely conservative family in Turkey, and when president Erdogan came to power in 2002, he took the country in a more religious direction.

the 25-year-old Büşra has worn the hijab since she was 14 years old. Four years ago she began to question it, but she feared for the consequences.

– Many of us think that hijabben is the most important for muslims. Even more important than to ask, she says to the media.

Büşra Cebeci was on holiday in Ankara, which is Turkey’s capital, she tried to take her hijab for the first time in public. It was a very strange experience, she thought.

I was embarrassed and hid behind my sunglasses so no one could recognize me, she says.

Büşra felt that people looked more at her hair than her face. Passers-by asked her why she had chosen to take hijabben of. Büşra took her hijab on again.

Büşra Cebeci came home from the holiday, she threw herself over the books on Turkish politics and history. Turkey had not had the tradition that women had to be the hijab, so she chose to move from her family.

It was also the last time that she wore her hijab.

– My father was very angry. He told my mother that he would not see me more, tell Büsra.

Shortly after she started university, she trained as a journalist.

Büşra has since then made a myriad of interviews with women who have dropped hijabben, which has led to the fact that she has become a recognized journalist in her home country. Now she will take part in a sea of talk shows, and she shares her story about himself and other Turkish women to the press.

Büşra Cebeci do not fight for women to have to drop the hijabben, but on the other hand, women themselves should decide whether they will go with it. Her message is that man’s free will is the most important.

Since then she has also joined the #1YearChallenge.

today is Büşra in contact with his father again.

Ekstra Bladet has spoken with the journalist, writer and Turkey expert Deniz Serinci on Erdogan’s views on the veil (among other things, the hijab, red).

Erdogan has its roots in political islam. When Turkey was formed in 1923, the constitution had the objective that the country should be a secular state. That religion and policy should be kept separate. Since he won the election in 2002, he has not been a supporter of this. In 2008 repeals the he prohibition to go with the veil. So you can have good arguments too, that go with the veil is a form of support for Erdogan in Turkey.

Erdogan did not say directly, that one must wear a veil, but his wife goes with it. But his party clearly supports more islam in Turkey. Here is the blurry one of the elements, says Deniz.
