Several rental car and taxi operators around the Berlin entrepreneur Thomas Mohnke are launching a campaign to switch the industry to electromobility. “We are willing to make advance payments and hope that we can use this to convince the industry,” said Mohnke WELT AM SONNTAG. The companies behind the initiative operate around 3,000 vehicles nationwide, which they want to convert to a CO₂-neutral drive. “We also need political support for this,” said Mohnke.

So that the almost 100,000 taxis and taxi-like rental cars in the country can be quickly converted to emission-free drives, the entrepreneurs of the “Green Mobility? Yes, please” among other things, an extension of the environmental bonus.

According to the decision of the traffic light coalition, the subsidies for commercial fleet operators are to end on September 1, 2023. They are also calling for special rules for electric vehicles, such as special parking spaces at taxi ranks, and exempting electric rental cars from the controversial obligation to return between two trips.
