Former CD&V-minister Joke Schauvliege replaces Peter Van Rompuy as the first vice-president of the Flemish Parliament. Van Rompuy himself was last week appointed as party leader of the CD&V fraction in replacement of Koen Van den Heuvel. That last, again, last week, the Flemish minister in the place of Joke Schauvliege, who resigned after controversial statements about the klimaatbetogingen.

Koen Van den Heuvel has been around since 2004 in the Flemish parliament and was specialized in finance, budget, innovation and work. Since 2012, he was the leader for CD&V. He was also already since 1997, mayor of Puurs, today the new municipality Puurs Sint-Amands. Former mayor of Sint-Amands Peter Van Hoeymissen (CD&V) follows Van den Heuvel.

The promotion for Van den Heuvel was not a big surprise. He will now take the time as minister to his brand for the elections of 26 may. Van den Heuvel will than the Flemish list, pulling in the province of Antwerp and so to compete against other N-VA-president Bart De Wever, which is also not an easy task promised to be for CD&V. Each minute extra media attention is taken into account. Van den Heuvel graduated in 2014 from the third place 16.775 votes.

Van Rompuy

Peter Van Rompuy, who since 2012 in the parliament was established, following Van den Heuvel, turn on as party leader. The 38-year-old Van Rompuy on may 26, also party leader, but in his thuisprovincie Vlaams-Brabant.
