It costs a fortune to maintain and restore the world-famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, the French capital’s most visited monument.
It tells the BBC.
Each year the French government up to € 4 million, which is equivalent to approximately 30 million crowns for the restoration of the cathedral, which was completed back in the year 1345.
But it is not enough, says the BBC in their feature on Notre Dame.
in Fact, it is estimated that it would cost 150 million euros, or the equivalent of over 1.1 billion dollars, to have carried out necessary work on the building’s basic design.
– When you get really close, it is incredible to see how much the old girl needs a helping hand, says Christine Larwood from the BBC during the visit at the cathedral.
Each year visit the 13 million people of Notre Dame, and if they need to have the option for it, it requires huge pengesumme.
Over the years there have already been many major restorations of the cathedral in order to preserve the Notre Dames of important elements, some of which dating back to the 12. century.
Both pollution, acid rain and the cathedral’s age consumes hard on both the facade and on the construction itself, and it is a constant process to maintain the building.
– If we did nothing, would the building have fallen together for 10 years, says Michel Picaud, president of the society of Notre Dames friends.
in Order to preserve the Notre Dame cathedral and other ageing cathedrals, monasteries and historic monuments across France, the government has chosen to think alternatively.
the Government has sent 12 million special scratch cards on the street, which you can buy in shops and kiosks all over the country, and when you buy a scratch ticket, 10 percent of the money for conservation projects. The money must be distributed out at around 270 historic monuments throughout France. So far there has been collected approximately 120 million from skrabelodderne.
