The Prime Minister made this announcement on the eve of the presentation in the Council of Ministers of a new version of the orientation and programming bill of the Ministry of the Interior (Lopmi), during the inauguration of a police station in the center of the capital.
Lopmi 2 (15 articles against 32 previously) provides for a substantial financial effort of an additional 15 billion euros over five years for the budget of the Ministry of the Interior. Half, or 7.5 billion euros, will be allocated to digital.
Announcing the increase in staff for the next five years, Ms. Borne recalled that 10,000 additional police and gendarmes had been deployed during the previous five-year term.
The new text, which will be examined at first reading in October in the Senate, also provides for the creation of 11 mobile force units and 200 new gendarmerie brigades. Its objective is to allow, as desired by President Emmanuel Macron, a doubling of the presence of law enforcement on the ground by 2030.
Elisabeth Borne was accompanied during this trip by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, the prefect of police of Paris, Laurent Nunez, and the bosses of the police and the gendarmerie, Frédéric Veaux and Christian Rodriguez .
