Two lucky divers got something of a surprise on a dive out of the Italian town of Portofino. Here Edoardo Sbaraini and Gabriele Succi suddenly a big pot half buried in the sand at the bottom of the sea.

– The first thing we noticed was the neck and the bottom of some of the pitchers that stuck up out of the sand, says Edoardo Sbaraini to nyhedsbureaet AP.

It turned out that they had found a load of antique ceramics stolen by a roman ship and since lost in the Mediterranean sea.

We were in shock when it went up for us, what we had found. It is every diver’s dream to find historical effects, and for us, it was an incredible experience, says Edoardo Sbarain.

Divers found the whole 15 2000-year-old gallic amphorae. Most completely intact, however, also a single crushed, whose remains gave shelter to all sorts of sea creatures – among other things, two lobsters.

– Thanks to our undervandsscootere we were able to investigate a large area of Portofino, and we found amforaerne a place where divers usually do not come.

The two divers informed immediately to the local department of antiquities.

– Since we told you about pitchers, they came almost the same day. The archaeologists were just as excited for the found, which we were.

Found was made in november 2018, and the 10. January this year was the first antique jar picked up from the bottom of the sea. According to Edoardo Sbaraini there will be published more information about the found the coming weeks.
