The first round of Slovakia’s presidential election goes to the liberal lawyer Caputova. It is the hopes of the reformers. Your opponent in round two is likely to be EU Commissioner Sefcovic.

The liberal lawyer Zuzana Caputova, the Slovak presidential elections, their role as favorites from the surveys. After counting more than 80 percent of the votes, the 45-Year-old was, according to the election Commission, with around 40 percent of the vote, clearly ahead of the EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic. This was nominated by the ruling social Democrats and came in around 19 percent. The two are likely in a runoff election on may 30. March compete against each other.

Sefcovic is an independent politician, but is supported by the government party Smer-SD. Caputova is the Vice-Chairman of the newly founded party Progressive Slovakia.

Maros Sefcovic is the EU Commissioner and is supported by the ruling social Democrats.

is Not excluded, however, that instead of Sefcovic but still the right-wing populist Stefan Harabin in the runoff could come. He came to the part results to 15 per cent. Also, the right-wing extremist Marian Kotleba reached with eleven percent of its opponents feared a strong result.

other than the Pro-European candidate Caputova and Sefcovic had Harabin and Kotleba in the election campaign, especially the EU-refugee policy criticized. The turnout was 47 percent.

The provisional final result is expected to be in the night, the official result should be announced on Sunday at noon.
