28. september last year lost English George Groves his WBA title at super middleweight with the defeat to Callum Smith, and the fight ended also to be Groves’ last as a professional.

The 30-year-old boxer announces thus, on Instagram, that he is somewhat surprising end of his career.

‘Some might think that it is strange that I have chosen to stop. I’m still young, still fit and healthy. And there are still some great fights out there for me.’

‘But it is also why I choose to stop now. I have a young family at home, and it is time to use some of my good days with them. Through the years I have seen and unfortunately marked the dangers of the sport, and I would like to draw me, while I’m on the top’, he writes in a longer posting on the social media.

George Groves reached to the boxes 32 matches, of which 28 were won and four lost.

In the fourth attempt it succeeded in 2017 to win the WBA title following a victory over Fedor Chudinov in front of the hjemmepublikummet in Sheffield.

In 2013 came George Groves in the british headwinds, as he sparrede with the Danish Mikkel Kessler prior to the Kesslers showdown against Carl Froch.

Groves was accused of being unfair, because he was to prepare Kessler at the meeting against compatriot Carl Froch, who ended up with that win over the dane.
