Sweden freezes aid to the Unaids
Sweden stops until further aid to the UN agency Unaids after the scandals surrounding the organization also the executive director Michel Sidibé.
” We have no confidence in him. He must resign now. We freeze our support until he is gone, ” says Isabella Lövin (MP), minister for international development, the Swedish newspaper svenska Dagbladet.
Sidibé has been the head of Unaids, the UN program to combat hiv\u002Faids, in eight years and it has during that time been many reports of sexual harassment and abuse of power. He has proposed that he remain in place at least until the next board meeting in June 2019 but it is nothing like the Sweden line up on.
– It is not acceptable for us, ” says Lövin.
Sweden is the second largest donor to Unaids after the united states and has paid 2.6 billion to the organization since 2009.
