Already, the Vicar City Council has begun work on the Urban Agenda 2030. This pilot project, which was funded with European funds and for which the town was one of the selected ones, aims to make the city more sustainable and humane. As is the norm in this municipality, the project will include strong participation of the educational centres, which technicians visited recently to inform their management teams as well as the representatives from the AMPA about the activities they are planning to complete.

Participatory processes will take place over the next weeks, so all citizens can contribute, even girls and boys.

They were asked to create a drawing, writing, or other artistic expression to show how they can improve their neighborhood, street or park. The centers can also be offered to work together or contribute to the outstanding works that were done during the course.

All this material will be used to make a selection and then a school agenda for the academic year 2022-2023 will be created. This will be distributed to students. It will showcase the best ideas and contributions made by students to help them start walking towards their dream city.

Teachers were also provided with a didactic guide by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. They also received support materials, including a poster for each class that includes the 10 challenges. These challenges encourage students to think about mobility, climate, and social equity.

Each Primary student will work with their teacher to reflect on what commitments they can make for the common good. This material will be used next year in class and at home. It aims to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the small, daily changes that can be made in cities to improve them.

These meetings were used by the schools to present to the municipal representatives their concerns. He emphasized the need to improve the quality and quantity in the neighborhood’s bike lanes, to make better use existing sports facilities, to encourage cleaning, or to a greater commitment to selective waste recycling.
