An extraordinary meeting of the Hamburg Parliament’s Council of Elders – that’s an event that doesn’t happen that often. The AfD had now requested such a meeting because they had felt insulted by Udo Lindenberg. According to a video recording, the new honorary citizen had raised his middle finger in his direction during a speech by AfD parliamentary group leader Alexander Wolf, albeit only very briefly. Hardly anyone noticed this during the meeting, which ended with Lindenberg being made an honorary citizen.

If the AfD was hoping for a joint disapproval from the Council of Elders, they were disappointed. Citizenship President Carola Veit (SPD) also did not move away from her statement that Wolf’s speech was “just before an insult”. Krzysztof Walczak, parliamentary AfD manager and member of the Council of Elders, concluded accordingly: “The reaction of the President, who is working on a democratically critical speech, is inappropriate, but when the honorary citizen committed a crime in the parliamentary hall, she was taciturn House rules in the subjunctive,” he said, who continued to be emotionally wounded by the gesture: “Since the Council of Elders did not meet our demands today, as expected, the judiciary must now restore the lost dignity of our Parliament. We will recommend to colleague Wolf to file a criminal complaint against Mr. Lindenberg.”

And that’s what happened on Wednesday. A press release said: “Stinkefinger-Udo not only insulted me personally and the freely elected members of the AfD parliamentary group; he insulted tens of thousands of AfD voters in Hamburg and millions of AfD voters nationwide. I struggled with myself for a long time, but I won’t let him get away with it.” There should be no “extra sausage for Udo.”

The representatives of the other parties in the Hamburg Parliament had already criticized the AfD initiative on Monday – the party was constantly handing out, but always felt like a victim. Lindenberg himself has not yet commented on the process. It can certainly be doubted that he will make the apology demanded by the AfD.
