49,201 Corona cases were reported to the RKI yesterday.

Compared to the previous week, there is a minus of 16 percent.

This is the 26th consecutive business day of a week-on-week decline.

The incidence falls from 275 to 271, the lowest level since June 8.

The summer wave is coming to an end.

It was completely different a year ago at this time: the delta wave was already building up.

In Berlin, the incidence has fallen significantly since the beginning of July. Recently, the downward momentum has increased – with the result that Berlin only replaced Thuringia as the state with the lowest incidence at the beginning of the week.

But now the incidence in the capital is rising from 162 to 226.

Such a jump of a good 40 percent is unusual.

There are increasing incidences in all twelve Berlin districts without exception – although the rates of increase vary.

They range from five percent in Steglitz-Zehlendorf to 79 percent in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.

The reason for the erratic development is unclear.

Late registrations could be one reason – only there doesn’t seem to have been any particular reporting failures in the last few days for capital city conditions.

Of course, it is also possible that more tests are currently being carried out at the beginning of the school year, thereby reducing the underreporting.

However, it is then unclear whether this will only interrupt the downward trend for a short time.

At least that is what is indicated in NRW, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein, where the incidences are now below the level of the previous week.

116 corona deaths were reported to the RKI yesterday.

That’s 68 fewer than a week ago.
