Bruno Dumont is preparing a new feature film, entitled Red Rocks, for the French international sales company Luxbox, the British magazine Screen Daily announced on Monday February 12. This film retraces, over the course of a summer, a love story like Romeo and Juliet.
Red Rocks also tells the story of the rivalry between two groups of children – locals and summer residents – who compete in the perilous game of “cliff jumping”. For the filming, which is taking place this year, the director focused on the beauty of the Côte d’Azur. “The broken, reddish and picturesque setting of the rocky coast of southern France, on the ancient shores of the Mediterranean, is the setting for the heat of extreme acts and passions that arise and carry away human hearts,” said the filmmaker at Screen.

“Bruno Dumont always knows how to surprise his audience and this new project is no exception,” explains Jennyfer Gautier, head of international sales at Luxbox, to our British colleagues. He plays in his own way with well-known human feelings, such as jealousy. It has rather accustomed us to the north of France and this time, all the action takes place in the South, with a summer atmosphere and Mediterranean landscapes.
Red Rocks will notably be produced by Tessalit Productions, the Italian company Nightswim as well as the Belgian Novak Prod and the Portuguese Rosa Filmes. This is not the first collaboration between Bruno Dumont and Luxbox. The company has in fact ensured the sales of many of the director’s films, from P’tit Quinquin (2014), to Jeannette (2016) and Jeanne (2019).
