The Order of Merit of the PDC has a new number one. Peter Wright, who led the world rankings from March 6th to July 24th, regained the top position from Gerwyn Price. The Welshman should have won the World Grand Prix like in 2020 to defend the prize money that had fallen out of the standings and stay at the top. Getting into the semifinals was enough for Wright to return to the darts throne.
But the major tournament also shook up the rankings in the top places. Nathan Aspinall jumped three places to eleventh, Ross Smith (27th) and Madars Razma (36th) moved up five places.
The biggest jump, however, was achieved by Martin Lukeman. By reaching the quarterfinals, the Englishman made up 16 places and is now 43rd.
The biggest losers are Gary Anderson, who is likely to drop out of the top 10 in the coming weeks, Devon Petersen, who is no longer in the top 32 and is also in danger of missing the World Cup after losing in the African World Cup qualifier, and Jeffrey De Zwaan .
The Dutchman lost a whopping £16,000 in prize money. After surprisingly participating in the quarterfinals as a substitute two years ago, De Zwaan did not make it into the field of 32 this time, so he lost eleven places and is now ranked 62nd. Without taking part in the World Championships or surprising successes in the last few weeks of the season, the “Black Cobra” will also have to give up its Tour Card at the end of the year.
The two Germans missed it with their first round defeats to make up more ground. Martin Schindler lost a place in the Order of Merit despite the £7,500 prize money associated with his debut. Gabriel Clemens is still the best German in 22nd place.
The order of merit is calculated on the basis of the prize money won over the past 24 months. The top 16 are seeded for the major tournaments World Matchplay and World Grand Prix. The top 32 automatically qualify for the second round of the World Championship and the fourth round of the UK Open. In addition, the best 24 professionals play the Masters among themselves.
After the World Cup, players ranked 1-64 will receive a tour card for the following year. This does not apply to anyone who had only secured their right to play (for two years) twelve months earlier.

Until the end of 2006, only the number of tournament wins was taken into account in the ranking. Since it was introduced in 1993, the leaders of the ranking have been the Englishmen Alan Warriner-Little, Dennis Priestley, Rod Harrington, Peter Manley and Colin Lloyd as well as the Canadian John Part. The highest placing for a German is rank 21, achieved by Max Hopp and Gabriel Clemens.
