The Rhaetian Railway Company (RhB) has announced that it has broken the world record for the length of a passenger train, at an event marking the 175th anniversary of the Swiss railway system.
The 1,910 meter train, made up of 25 assembled trainsets, traveled 25 kilometers in less than 45 minutes between Preda and Alvaneu, in the canton of Graubünden.
“For me it’s simply Swiss perfection,” RhB director Renato Fasciati told Blick newspaper.
The RhB red train was several hundred meters longer than the one that held the previous record, set in Belgium in the 1990s, a spokesman for the company told AFP.
The train, with 150 passengers on board, traveled the Albula railway line, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, passing through 22 tunnels and crossing 48 bridges in this alpine region.
