Extra Magazine-reader Mikkel Monberg has revealed that it is Charles le Brun, the king of the painting in the 1600s, which stands behind the subject for the painting, which on Monday was sold for one million dollars at Bruun Rasmussen, even though it was only rated to 4000 crowns.
In an email writes Mikkel Monberg:
‘The painting, which is obviously not someone who can recognize an outline or a reproduction of the le Bruns Spain threatening France from krigssalen at Versailles. Anyone with just a minimal history of art, the understanding would be able to see it,’ he writes.
Bruun Rasmussen put the painting to be by an unknown artist, and since then it has been the Danish art world, how it could be sold for as much of the assessment. As late as Thursday evening, said Mikkel Bogh, director of Statens Museum for Kunst, however, it could well be Charles le Brun:
– It points in the direction of an established artist. There is a bow on the painting, suggesting that it is a arkitekturelement, which could have been painted over a door or a gate in a slot. One would typically make a olieskitse in this size for this purpose. It would be one of the right established artists, who would get such a task. But whether it is the greatest of them all – Charles le Brun, who was employed at the court of the sun king court and worked for the very richest people – it is hard to say, he says.
the Extra Leaf has verified Mikkel Monbergs statements, and it is quite correct that it hangs in the Versailles castle. The same is Bruun Rasmussen has now reached:
on Monday evening, we could find that the work, with a rating of 4000 crowns was sold for one million dollars. And already there we put our entire team of experts in the fine art of the time. And they find the day after that it is a study for a work which was originally painted by Charles le Brun, and that the original hangs in the Versailles castle .It remains to find out whether it is a studio from his hand or from a at the same time or a little later, the artist’s hand, says Kasper Nielsen, assessment, and sales director, Bruun Rasmussen.
He said, the buyer probably will think that it is an original work by Charles le Brun, since the sale price is at a such rent. But this is not yet fixed. To the other hand, it is determined that Bruun Rasmussen, with ‘unknown artist’ had missed, that it is Charles le Brun, who stands behind the original, and it is not something that Kasper Nielsen just rejoice over:
– It is, of course, we get bored because we are doing everything we can to hit right when we both assess and catalogue art.
– In the can the use your fees on a joint study tour to Versailles?
– It is a fine call, laughing, Kasper Nielsen, who, however, quickly establishes that it is a case, as he is not happy:
– We would like to have avoided this case. However, we make mistakes, and fortunately so, is there a buyer who has identified it, so our salesman got the right price.
