I have been married for ten years and have four children. My ex-husband is a british citizen living in Cairo, Egypt. I have fled from him because of physical and psychological violence. I moved with him to Cairo in november 2017 and came back to Denmark in October 2018.
I stayed a little over a year in Middlesbrough and before that a little over a year in England.
When I came back to Denmark in 2018, I took contact to Middelfart Municipality. They said that I should try at shelters in Odense or Copenhagen, en Middelfart Municipality did not have any available. I went to Copenhagen, since I have a friend there, but virtually no other network. But the city of Copenhagen says that they can’t help me – it must Middelfart Municipality.
that the children are started in school and kindergarten in Copenhagen, where the local authority say they can’t help me with housing because I’m not in danger anymore.
on using for deposits in an apartment, since the rent was too high compared to my income. I am also soon as the outside address, since I don’t have the address any more, where it stands, and then we are truly homeless.
A community centre, which says that they can find an apartment in Esbjerg, but I think that my children and I have been through and are finally settled and, after all, have had some good routines.
What are my rights as a Danish citizen? My children are also Danish citizens.
As a Danish citizen, you have the same rights as all others in the kingdom. There are some rules concerning social benefits – cash benefits and start assistance, when you have been a departure – but it is not the problem here.
It is the local authority of residence, who are committed to help you. So if you are staying in Copenhagen, the Copenhagen Municipality, who shall help you. In relation to the to be assigned housing by the municipality as Copenhagen is probably one of the country’s hardest – because there is a huge pressure on the housing, the municipality may direct.

, you can ’squeeze’ the municipality to deliver housing, is to move into a shelter, since the municipality so that stands for something of opholdsbetalingen – and therefore have a vested interest in getting you on to your own private residence.
So you need to do it to a fixed, daily routine to go to the shelters to ask for help. Many shelters recorder of new residents from day to day, as they do not have waiting lists. If a shelter does not have space, they are bound to refer you to an available.
that you can’t take stay in a shelter, because you are now in security – you stand on the street with four children and fled from an abusive husband in abroad – then of course you are in the target audience. And incidentally, it is krisecenteret, assesses whether you are safe – not a caseworker in the municipality!
for deposits due to high rent, so remember that you can get after section 34 of the aktivloven – a special aid to the high cost of housing. This support must be counted as income when you apply for boligindskudslån. I would recommend you to take contact to the various free-services provided – you will find the link and phone number for them elsewhere on the page.
If they can’t help, please feel free to contact me again.
