ARD chairman Tom Buhrow gave a speech on the future of public broadcasting – explicitly not as ARD chairman, but as a private individual. Aside from questioning whether that’s even possible, Buhrow made some notable statements. And finally represented the position that only a comprehensive reform can secure the long-term existence of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandfunk.
Although these are not new theses, the speech from the mouth of what is probably the most influential ARD director was surprising. Because it is no longer about preserving vested rights, about tactics, about shifting responsibility – but about the fact that ARD and ZDF can also do to constructively shape their future.
Elon Musk, on the other hand, does not have to separate who he is, Tesla boss, SpaceX founder or Twitter buyer. Musk is always Musk. According to his own statements, he is currently working around 120 hours a week to turn around his $44 billion purchase. At the same time, he seems to be Twitter’s most avid user himself – he tweets like crazy.
In this issue of our podcast “Die Medien-Woche” we discuss whether this activism of the richest man in the world ultimately creates a perspective for the network – or whether Musk’s actions cause more damage than success.
We also read a thesis in the industry journal “Horizont” according to which the soccer World Cup in Qatar could become the “most successful World Cup on television” ever. This possibility is in stark contrast to many reports in the run-up to the World Cup, according to which many viewers who otherwise enjoy watching football leave the television switched off for moral reasons. Will it be completely different in the end?
