Anna Politkovskaya was Russia’s foremost investigative journalist. As a contributor to the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, she was known worldwide for her research into corruption in Putin’s Russia and especially war crimes during the Chechen war. On October 7, 2006, she was murdered in the elevator at her home. At that time she left behind two adult children, including her daughter Vera Politkovskaya.
