Drivers in Paris, Madrid and Brussels may, within a foreseeable future be, affected by a very comprehensive dieselforbud.

The three cities have won the right to introduce a forureningsgrænse of just 80 mg of NOx by the EUROPEAN court of justice in Luxembourg. It is a significantly lower threshold than in cities such as Hamburg, Berlin and Stuttgart, who have introduced low emission zones with strict dieselkrav in the course of the year.

in Fact, it will only be possible for the very latest diesel cars to run into in Paris, Madrid and Brussels, if the authorities choose to go ahead with the pollution limit. For the cars must in that case be authorised in accordance with the latest euronorm, which entered into force in september of this year.

It writes Autocar.

the Case took its beginning back in 2016, when the EU commission decided to adjust on the requirements of the diesel vehicles in connection with the fact that you transitioned into a new type of forureningstest.

instead of the limit of 80 mg NOx during the laboratory test, which was introduced with the Euro 6 norm back in 2014, swollen to the limit to 168 mg under the new so-called ‘TOUGH’test in order to give manufacturers the air to adjust.

It got promptly the authorities in the three cities to sue, because the new limit in their eyes would keep the pollution level in cities ‘excessively high’ and make it harder to get rid of the harmful exhaust gases to life.

In Paris, baptized mayor Anne Hildalgo even the new frontier ‘permis de polluer’, permission to pollute.

Now have the EUROPEAN court of justice then ruled that the amendment was illegal. The decision can be appealed within the next two months, but it is not happening, the EU-commission according to LeMonde 12 months to introduce the ‘new rules’, which ‘protects the public health and the environment’, as the court writes in its decision.

the Commission will, according to the media ’to analyze the judgment in detail before deciding what the next steps are. Also the association of european carmakers, ACEA, has been taciturn after the decision.

In the mayor’s office in Paris is, in turn, very well satisfied with the outcome.

– This decision is a milestone and a major step forward. The court has finally admitted that the citizens through their mayors can be heard in the cases, which is as important as the environment and public health, says Anne Hildalgo to Le Monde.

It is not yet determined whether the three storybyer will go on the rampant dieselforbud, as they now are in their good right to to introduce.
