A 25-year-old man, who was enrolled on the behandlingscenteret Tjele Søgården in the north of Jutland, has tragically died after being given another resident’s methadone. The cause of death has not yet been established.
– There have mistakenly been given the wrong medication to Malik, says Jan Meincke, who is the head of the Tjele Søgården.
the Extra Leaf has been in contact with the patient, who should had gotten the medicine, and he explains that he takes 60 mg of methadone, as the deceased man by mistake got.
According to the Danish Health and medicines authority can methadone be fatal at 40 mg, why a possible treatment with methadone should be initiated with a low dosage.
Malik has never been in methadone treatment and it was not, as he mistakenly got the methadone at Tjele Søgårdens treatment center.
It had fatal consequences, when the young man was found lifeless in his room in the morning 10. June, after which he was flown to Skejby Hospital by helicopter, informs his mother of the Extra Blade.
– I talk with a nurse from Skejby acute-intensive, and he tells me that it is a methadone-poisoning, says malik’s mother, who is deeply affected by the situation.
Malik was otherwise ready for a new life without abuse, and a few days before his tragic death, Malik had served it better, than he had long, says malik’s mother and papfar.
This is further confirmed by a note from Malik logbook: ‘Now I have been here a week, and it has been so hard but today has been so fun and good’, he writes.
According to the Tjele Søgårdens center director, Jan Meincke, was Malik observed in the course of the day, after he had been fejlmedicineret. They ordered an extra guard to keep an eye on the development in the course of the night, but still was the 25-year-old found lifeless in bed in the morning.
And the relationship can prove to be critical. From the Antidote Denmark is in conclusion ready. They are dealing with on a daily basis with overdose of methadone.
– If I have to deal with a, who have received an overdose, and I must treat with naloxone (the antidote for methadone), so I will always call 112. And always make sure that the patient is admitted subsequently. It is a completely normal procedure, says Michael Lodberg Olsen, the daily leader of the Antidote Denmark, which does not relate to the specific case.
malik’s mother will be first made aware that Malik had been given the methadone as she gets it told by a nurse at Skejby Hospital. In addition, it shows a brain scan of a creepy conclusion.
– In the hospital gets Malik hjernescannet, and the scan shows that he is in over an hour has been under massive iltsvigt, says malik’s mother.
the Extra Leaf has been trying to get answers as to why behandlingscenteret ordered an extra night shift instead of including Malik.
We have also tried to get answers on whether they have given the antidote to the methadone, naloxone, which, according to the Antidote, Denmark does not have any side effects.
Management at Tjele Søgården has not wanted to answer the above questions.
the Police confirm that they are investigating the death as suspicious.
– We have a death by overdose of methadone, as we started to examine the sequence of events in the case, says the police commissioner Christian Toftemark, Midt – and Vestjyllands Police.
the Body must go through a judicial inquest, because the police consider the death as a suspicious relationship. The answer at the autopsy are expected to be presented Tuesday.
the Doctor, who was in charge that day, is, according to the center’s management sent home on leave while the authorities investigate the matter further.
Ekstra Bladet has been in touch with the doctor on behandlingscenteret, but he does not want to comment.
