Donald Trump has called for the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan heights through his country. “After 52 years, it is time for the United States, Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan heights to fully recognise,” wrote Trump on Thursday at the short message service Twitter. Since the Six-day war in 1967, Israel has occupied a large part of the between Israel and Syria, the nearby Golan heights in 1981, the annexation of the area followed. The international community does not recognize the annexation.

Netanyahu had urged the United States and other countries in January to be re-annexed Golan heights as part of Israel to acknowledge. “The Golan heights are of enormous importance for our security, and I think when you’re on-the-spot, one understands very well why we will leave the Golan, never,” he said at a Meeting with the National security Advisor of the United States, John Bolton, in Jerusalem.
