In Morocco, approved by the international community on Monday morning last a hotly debated UN-migration Pact formally. Earlier, UN meeting Secretary-General António Guterres in Marrakech, the summit of heads of state and government on the adoption of the Covenant opened. Representatives from more than 150 countries, among them numerous heads of state and government, came to the two-day conference in the Moroccan city. For Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) takes part. On the morning of the 192 Nations negotiated Text was adopted by acclamation. Several Nations had withdrawn their support for the international non-legally binding framework in the past few weeks, however, and do not take part in the summit. The UN’s special representative for international Migration, Louise Arbour, stated that the migration Pact reaffirmed in the UN Charter’s values and principles. The objectives include the elimination of causes of Flight, integrated border management, the fight against Smugglers and trafficking in persons, better cooperation in the return of migrants to their home countries and the opening of legal opportunities for immigration. Whether and how these objectives will be implemented, is left solely to the nation-States.
According to recent estimates by the International labour organization ILO, the number of migrants is estimated worldwide to 277 million. Among them, three million Germans living abroad.
