The City Council of Almeria’s Executive Commission has approved the demolition of the former Post Office building. This space will be home to the Smart Green Cube, which is expected to open in the next months. It will also host the City Council of Almeria’s benchmark for agricultural technological innovation in the future.

Ramon Fernandez-Pacheco was the mayor of the city. Carmen Crespo, acting Minister of Agriculture in the Andalusian government, and representatives from the Almeria agricultural sector were also present.

The base bidding budget for the demolition project is 762,836.84 Euros and the execution time is eight months. Crespo was confident that this could become a reality by the start of 2023, but she didn’t venture to announce specific dates.

Almeria City Council purchased the Post Office for almost 1.2 Million Euros in August 2021. The Board then took over the Post Office’s location to establish the Smart Green Cube. This is one of the axes of the Technological Innovation Pole of the Agriculture, in which it plans to invest 10,000,000 euros.

The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated a total of 7.4 million to build the facility and 2.6 million for the purchase of the equipment. These facilities will be home to innovative technology solutions in agroindustry, intensive agriculture, and will also serve as a testing lab for vertical farming.

Juanma Moreno, the Andalusian Government, hopes this smart building will bring in investment and help it retain and attract talent.
